As a Paralegal at Giles Wilson, I have mainly worked in our family department dealing with divorce, financial remedy, parental status and Children Act cases. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience but it's now time to move on...This week I began my new role as a Trainee Solicitor!
Training to become a Solicitor is now a lot more flexible than it used to be, even in recent years, and therefore alongside my training I can study the Legal Practice Course. During my period of recognised training (previously known as a "training contract"), I will move around different departments (each known as a "seat"). This will enable me, as a Trainee, to obtain experience in and gain an understanding of different areas of legal practice, different ways of practising law, and different personalities within the firm.
I'll now be working under the guidance of Melinda Giles, assisting her with various matters including those relating to the Court of Protection. This has prompted me to reflect on my training and professional development so far. I’m particularly interested in learning about how the Court handles individuals who lack capacity and how their finances and welfare are dealt with.
This will be a completely new experience and I'm looking forward to working in a different area with more interesting legal challenges to tackle. I’m eager to learn more about the subject and start the next stage of my career! Stay tuned for further updates on my progress.
