All Legislation and Government policies will now face a ‘families test’ in order to support family relationships.
The 'families test' consists of five questions that Departments will need to satisfy when developing any Legislation or policy. This will include looking at the contributions made by mother’s, father’s and grandparents to family life.
Although the test is designed to show that family is at the heart of Government policy, the test does take into consideration the effect legislation and policies will have after a couple have separated.
It will be interesting to see whether this test has a real impact and how it will affect family matters.
